Fund Education, Save Our Pools

We the undersigned, petition the Legislative Assembly of Ontario to:

  1. Reform the education funding formula to reflect the actual cost of educating students in urban centres.
  2. Create a targeted equity fund for schools in marginalized and underserved communities to address the injustice of these communities relying on families donating funds they do not have to ensure their children receive a quality education.
  3. Commit to reversing the decade-long underfunding of public education by matching budget increases to inflation and actual student needs, rather than relying on outdated or misleading per-student averages.

Whereas, the Ford government has spent seven years cutting costs to public services, including health care and education, resulting in devastating consequences for Ontario and its residents.

And whereas, this year, the 2025-26 TDSB budget faces a $70.3 million structural deficit, stemming from government funding that fails to keep up with inflation, match federally-mandated employer-paid increases to CPP and EI payments for staff, account for increased number of students who are special needs in urban centres, and fails to address the greater than average populations of students who are refugees and newcomers who require ESL support.

And whereas, as a result, Toronto Centre schools are being forced to close their pool facilities, taking away a significant resource from our residents.
