WHEREAS rent in Ontario has increased by over 50 percent in the past decade, far outpacing wages and inflation, leaving many households struggling to afford basic necessities;
WHEREAS approximately one third of renter households are paying unaffordable rent, forcing families to cut back on groceries, work longer hours, or risk losing their homes;
WHEREAS the Conservative government has removed rent control from newer units, allowed Above Guideline rent increases, and failed to close loopholes that enable evictions and drive up rents;
WHEREAS there are now approximately 1.7 million renter households in Ontario, and more people are being priced out of homeownership and pushed into an increasingly unaffordable rental market;
