On January 24, Toronto's Executive Committee will be voting on a report from Revenue Services recommending a 10% cap on commercial property tax increases and consultations to create a new small business tax classification. This is a critical vote for Yonge Street owners, and small businesses across the city who are facing massive tax increases due to land speculation and the Province's land value assessment methodology.
Small business and property owners interested in being heard should register to depute at Committee by emailing the Executive Committee Clerk at firstname.lastname@example.org and request to be added to the agenda as a speaker on item EX30.5. Written submissions can be sent to the same email address until noon on January 23, as well.
For those who want to meet and understand how to push these policy changes forward, Councillor Wong-Tam will also be holding a meeting at City Hall for owners, operators, and supporting associations.
