Rob Ford reverses position to vote for motion recognizing 75th anniversary of Nanking massacre

After taking heat from some left-leaning councillors for failing to mark the 75th anniversary of the Nanking massacre, Mayor Rob Ford reversed his position Wednesday.

He voted with the rest of council to issue a proclamation recognizing the 1937 massacre, but only after rejecting an earlier request on advice from the city’s protocol office, which deemed the anniversary “politically controversial.”
