One block closure of Yonge Street continues following fire at 914 and 920 Yonge Street

Yonge Street remains closed to vehicles in both directions from Davenport Road to Belmont Street following a fire that occurred this morning at a hydro vault, affecting businesses and residents located at 914 and 920 Yonge Street.

The one-block area of Yonge Street is expected to remain closed for at least the next four to five hours. Subway service continues as usual. Yonge Street bus service is also operating, with detours around the affected block. The area is open to pedestrians and neighbouring businesses are open as usual.

The fire which was quickly extinguished, and a watermain break in the area resulted in flooding and a power outage at the building, forcing the evacuation of businesses and approximately 105 residential units at the address. City crews are on site working closely with Toronto Hydro. Water service to the area has been restored.

The City of Toronto has established a reception centre at the Toronto Reference Library at 789 Yonge Street to assist affected residents. The reception centre is open until 11 p.m. this evening and will reopen tomorrow morning at 9:30 a.m. Tenants of 914 and 920 Yonge Street may also contact Brookfield Property Management at 416-510-8700 24 hours a day during the evacuation for ongoing information and updates.
