Local planning is increasingly important as communities want to protect their local heritage and culture hubs. Planning defines our communities: what they look like and connect to, as well as built form and public realm. As we see development across Toronto, what can we do to advocate for our cultural spaces? How do we define spaces that are meaningful to us? Who decides what is meaningful?
On May 27th, 2021, we brought together planners, artists, and culture keepers to explore the meaning of cultural and heritage spaces to our communities, what they look like, if development disrupts culture and heritage, and how preserving culture happens in practice.
