This morning I was informed by the City’s Fire Chief about a second alarm fire that broke during 1:35 am at 77 Huntley. Toronto Fire Services was met with a serious working fire in a unit located on the 7th floor and encountered heavy smoke immediately.
Sadly, one occupant from the unit was removed and rushed to Sunnybrook Hospital in critical condition, and later pronounced deceased at the hospital. There is always a potential for a deadly result given the nature of serious fires despite immediate emergency responses. Our hearts go out to this individual and their respective families. A second victim was also rushed to Sunnybrook in serious but, thankfully, stable condition.
A number of residents fled the building and were sheltered in TTC buses until they were able to return to their unit. The investigation into the origin, cause, and circumstances of this fire has commenced with Toronto Fire Services Investigations, Toronto Police, and the Ontario Fire Marshall. More information will become available to the public pending investigations.
